It’s fall. The landscape of our hemisphere erupts into vibrant shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown that the artist envies. The crunching of leaves underfoot create a refrain that is unmatched in musical symphonies. I breathe in the crisp autumn air that invigorates my insides, while my coat keeps me warm.

The trees that produce such lovely colors are dormant. The leaves that sing are dead. And the cold air chills me to the bone. How can such beauty come from the deepest sorrows? Why do we celebrate the harvest in excess as we enter into a season of emptiness?

We rejoice that we will be sustained despite the coming winter. We celebrate the blessings before and the blessings to come. We embrace the heartache because it is not the end of the story. Though we hit our breaking point, though we cling to our last rope, though it seems that an avalanche is closing in around us, the Earth thaws and the first buds of spring begin to emergeā€¦
